A BIOGRAPHY OF Prof. Dwijen Sharma 

Dwijen Sharma is known as the luminary in the lands of nature conservation and literature. He was born on May 29, 1929, in the idyllic village of Shimulia, Barlekha. His early years unfolded against the backdrop of the 1930s, a period marked by the tail end of colonial rule and the burgeoning winds of change in the Indian subcontinent. The influence of his parents, especially his mother’s endeavors in social work during a pivotal period of history, instilled in him a sense of responsibility towards the broader community. The early 1940s set the stage for Dwijen’s immersion in the vibrant ecosystems of Barlekha, an era when the struggle for independence was gaining momentum in the Indian subcontinent.

Born to Chandrakand Sharma, a respected “Kobiraj” or rural doctor, and Mognomoyi Debi, a dedicated social worker, Dwijen’s formative years were steeped in the influences of both science and community service. The healing practices of his father, a practitioner of traditional medicine, introduced young Dwijen to the delicate balance between nature and health.
