A BIOGRAPHY OF MD ABDUL MUBEEN

General (Retd.) Mohammed Abdul Mubeen used to be a high-ranking military leader in Bangladesh. He was the Chief of Army Staff from 2009 to 2012, and before that, he held other important positions in the military, like Principal staff officer of the Armed Forces Division and General Officer Commanding of two different infantry divisions. He retired from the army in 2012. Now he serves as the Chairman and nominated director of a company called United Power Generation & Distribution Company Limited.

Education

Md Abdul Mubeen went to Mirzapur Cadet College, Tangail and then became a soldier in the East Bengal Regiment of the Bangladesh Army on November 30, 1976. He studied at both Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) and National Defence College (NDC) in Mirpur, Dhaka. As an army officer, he completed many different training courses like NATO Weapon Conversion Course, Infantry Weapon Course, Senior Command Course, and went to workshops and seminars in 15 countries, including India and China.

Career

Muveen has had an impressive career in the military, playing various roles and achieving great success. He commanded two infantry battalions and an infantry brigade. He also served as Brigade Major (Operations Staff) at an Independent Infantry Brigade Headquarters, General Staff Officer First Grade (Operations Staff) at Infantry Division Headquarters and Private Secretary to the Army Chief and Director of Military Training at the Bangladesh Military Academy.

 

In addition to these roles, Mubeen has held several high-level appointments, including director general of Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) and principal staff officer (PSO), Prime Minister’s Office, and Armed Forces Division (AFD). He was also commandant of the Defence Services Command & Staff College and has commanded two infantry divisions, Jassore and Chittagong, as the general officer commanding (GOC).

 

Mubeen’s international experience is also impressive. He served as a peacekeeper in the capacity of chief of staff (Northern Region) in United Nations Operation in Mozambique (ONUMUZ). Overall, Mubeen has a wealth of experience and expertise that make him an asset to any organization.

Personal life

Md Abdul Mubeen married Syeda Sharifa Khanom and is the proud father of two sons and a daughter. His elder son is a third-generation army officer. In his free time, Mubeen enjoys playing golf and was a skilled hockey player during his early days, even earning recognition on the Army Hockey Team.
