Early Life & Background
Mubasshar Hussein was born on 27 December 1943. His birthplace is in Brahmanbaria. Later he moved with his family to Wari, Dhaka, Bengal Province, British India (now Bangladesh). He completed his schooling at a nearby school of his locality and later finished intermediate at a reputed college in Dhaka. From a very early age, he was quite devoted to his studies. He was also a very bright student. It was his tremendous hard work and dedication that allowed him to get admission to one of the most reputed universities in the country “Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology”. During his studies at BUET, he participated in the Liberation War of Bangladesh. In 1972, he finally finished his graduation to step into his dream career.

Proshika Bhaban (Head Office)
Proshika Bhaban is one of the most beautiful creations by Mubasshar Hussein. The building is a non-government organization structured in 1976. He designed the whole arena with all the advanced technology. The building is built with a unique shape with an incredible interior and exterior. Its head office is located in Mirpur, Dhaka.
Proshika Koitta
Proshika Koitta is the organization of Proshika HRDC Trust. The structure is named after the village as it is located in Koitta village, Manikganj, Bangladesh. Mubasshar Hussein beautifully designed the six-storied building with the greenery of nature. The red texture of the bricks and the green surroundings made the creation one of the best works of the architect.
Grameen Bank Bhaban
Grameen Bank Bhaban is another creation of Mubasshar Hussein. The building was constructed nearly in 1983 and is located in Mirpur, Dhaka. Because of its exceptional design one can easily distinguish the structure from other nearby buildings.
Chattogram Railway Station
Chootagram Railway Station, one of the largest train stations was also structured by Mubasshar Hussein. The Railway Station was built for the first time in the British period in 1896. Later, the Government of Bangladesh decided to develop the station. Thus Mubesshar Hussein became the first on the list to give the whole arena a completely new form. He took the opportunity and toiled hard and soul. Finally, the station came with a new design with excellent structure. The new terminal is filled with outstanding architectural beauty with better and more spacious height and lighting facilities. The new terminal officially started its journey on 30 September 2013.
RDRS Rangpur
RDRS (Rangpur Dinajpur Rural Service) Rangpur is the head office at Jail Road, Rangpur. The building is one of the most remarkable works of Mubasshar Hussein as the whole structure from ground to top is an example of exceptional beauty. He mixed nature and bricks in such a manner that it looked as if born out of the greenery. All the exteriors are designed as the plants are grown on them. Even after years, the structure is considered the most beautiful building in Rangpur.
Besides placing his remarkable design around the country, the architect served as a crucial member of various prestigious organizations as well. He was assigned the principal architect of Assoconsult Ltd. Mubasshar Hossein was also the honorable President of the Commonwealth Association of Architects. He served the Architects Regional Council, Asia ARCASIA as the president as well. Moreover, he was the three-time president of the IAB (Institute of Architects Bangladesh) consequently in 2003-04, 2007-08, and 2009-10.
The architect was also a great activist. He was the convener of the consumer rights organization, CAB (Consumers Association of Bangladesh). He was the honorable vice president of the environmental movement, Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon as well. It was his greatest dedication that made him worthy of gaining tremendous respect and achievements all over the world.

Mubasshar Hussein was a name of immense talent and incredible architectural skill. He made his remarks so high that besides a number of national awards, he was also honored with several international awards as well. In 2009, he achieved the AIA President Medal from the American Institute of Architects for creating excellent designs and projects. Later in 2018, he was honored with the IAB Gold Medal from the Institute of Architects Bangladesh.
Personal Life
Mubasshar Hussein was widely known for his gentle behavior toward his loved ones. Even being such a prominent personality, he was never heard of being opinionated. In fact, along with incredible talent, he had a warm heart blessed with immense kindness and passion. The man was greatly devoted to his motherland as well. That made him worthy of being the proud freedom fighter of the country. All of his generosity made him such an exceptional personality not only in the architectural sector but in real life as well.

Death
The prominent architect and valiant freedom fighter Mubasshar Hussein left his last breath at the Bangladesh Specialized Hospital on Monday, 2 January 2023 at nearly 1:38 am. He was at the age of 79. Mubasshar Hussein was severely ill for a long time and had been kept in the intensive care unit (ICU) for around two months. His condition was so bad that he was not even able to undergo dialysis then.
The soul was the owner of such a big heart that even after his death, he donated his body for the betterment of his motherland. According to the Institute of Architects, Mubasshar’s last wish was to donate his body to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital. That’s how even after his death, his body parts will help many ones to live their life again.
