Early Life

Zahid Hasan was born on 4 October 1965. He is 58 years old as of 2023. His birthplace is in Sirajganj, Bangladesh where he used to live with his parents and grandparents. Zahid’s father was Ilias Uddin Talukdar, a customs superintendent. His mother’s name was Hamida Begum, a housewife. Zahid lost both his father and mother a long ago. His mother left earth on November 27, 2014, at Samarita Hospital in Dhaka. 

Though time passes quickly, sometimes the scar of the wound remains forever. Just like that, Zahid Hasan also misses his mother even though it was long ago. In a recent interview, he shared some beautiful memories with his mother. He also recited a beautiful poem portrayed by himself in memory of his loving mother. Zahid said that his mother has a great place in his heart which can never be replaced. When his parents were alive, no matter how busy Zahid was, he always went to Sirajganj to celebrate Eid with them. But as they are not there he does not feel the same excitement going there. He also misses his nanny a lot whom he used to call pagla naani. She was the one who raised him along with his mother. Zahid was also dearest to his pagla naani. 

Though Zahid Hasan often seemed to be in grief remembering his parents and loved ones, he had a great time with his parents and siblings in childhood. He has eight siblings (four brothers and three sisters). Zahid is the youngest among them. In fact, he was the most pampered in his family. The siblings together used to enjoy a lot. Though there was hardly any TV set during that period. So, they used to record audio on the radio and practiced acting on their own. That’s how Zahid grew up in a quite jolly environment with his family. 

Though Zahid was indulged by his family and loved ones. Yet he focused on his studies as well. That can be confirmed by his brilliant educational qualifications.

 

Education

Zahid Hasan finished his schooling in Sirajganj. Though he had a great attraction for the entertainment industry, still he put great effort into his studies as well. He finished his schooling at Himabala High Boys School in Sirajganj. Besides studying, he used to perform in stage shows at his school. During that age, he was also associated with the Sirajganj Youth Community Dance Group. There, he used to do acting on stage dramas. 

After finishing his schooling, he came to Dhaka with a new dream. He got his admission to Dhaka College. Besides his graduation, he was also in need of a job. Though he did a number of stage films during his graduation, he didn’t even imagine that one day his acting career would make him a shining star in Bangladesh’s entertainment industry.

 

Career

It’s quite surprising to know this tremendous icon, Zahid Hasan started his career through a stage drama in 1984. Later the drama titled “Saat Purusher Rin Manch” was telecasted on BTV on 10 August 1984. In an interview, he was asked which one of his dramas he loved the most. He replied that he enjoyed the most “Saat Purusher Rin Manch” the first drama in his entire career. 

Five years later, in May 1989, he took a step towards his dream. He participated in an audition and was selected immediately for his unique acting style. Zahid Hasan got an opportunity to work in a short film named “Jibon Jemon”. His first short film was released in 1990 airing on BTV. Besides, he also played a side role in the film co-produced by Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka titled Boloban in 1986. The film was directed by Abdul Latif Bacchu. 

In 1992, Zahid Hasan came back with some iconic dramas like Shongkito Podojatra, Shomudro Bilash Private Limited, Nokkhotrer Raat, Grihoshukh Private Limited, and Nishithini. There, he worked with some famous personalities such as Bipasha Hayat, Asaduzzaman Noor, Tonima Ahmed, Aupee Karim, and so on.

Though Zahid Hasan was quite known at that time. But he came to the limelight by acting in some of the notable characters directed by the iconic star, Humayun Ahmed. Samudra Bilash Private Limited was his first drama where he worked with Humayun Ahmed. Aaj Robibar and Montri Mohodoyer Agomon Shubeccha Shagotom are also some notable dramas he played along with Humayun Ahmed. 

Not Just dramas, Zahid gained immense fame through some films directed by Humayun Ahmed as well. In the film, Srabon Megher Din, Zahid Hasan played the role of Moti, along with some popular actors like Mukti, Meher Afroz Shaon, and Mahfuz Ahmed. His incredible acting skills placed a special aura on the audience’s hearts. In 2008, he again appeared as Jamil in the film Amar Ache Jol. The film was based on a novel by Humayun Ahmed himself with the same title. 

Besides, Zahid Hasan also worked with some of the iconic directors in dramas and films. For example, Putrodaye directed by Hanif Sanket, Graduate by Muhammad Mostafa Kamal Raz, Poush Phaguner Pala by Afsana Mimi, Tokhon Boshonto by Shafiqur Rahman Shantanu and Humayun Faridi, Capsule Five Hundred Mg by Mohammad Noman, Second Hand by Shafiqur Rahman Shantanu, Joynal Jadukor by Himu Khan and the list goes on. 

From 2012 to 2015, Zahid Hasan came with more than thirty superhit dramas. In 2012, he appeared in Toto Company directed by Ashraful Chanchal and Zahid Hasan himself. His co-artists were some of the most famous actors, Azizul Hakim, Chhonda, Mir Sabbit, and Ahana. Later he appeared in Alal O Dulal with Mir Sabbir. Both of the dramas were aired on ATN Bangla. 

In 2013, he appeared again with Mir Sabbir in the sequence of Alal O Dulal titled “Alal O Dulal Tritio Porbo” and “Borishailla Pola Ashi Taka Tola”. In the same year, he came into view with some other popular dramas like Ar Kichu Nai Baki directed by Touhid Dipankar Deepan, Ukil Jamai by Jakir Hossain Uzzal and Shamim Azad, Tipu Sultaner Hati by Himu Akram, Bishe Bishokkhoye by Diya Rahman, Sangrila by Tauqir Ahmed and Shahiduzzaman Selim, Jhograpur by Golam Rabbani and Zahid Hasan and Priti O Shuveccha by Jakir Hossain Uzzal and Zahid Hasan. 

Next year, Zahid Hasan got the opportunity to work in another nine megahit dramas. Agun Khela, Mr. & Mrs. Shahriar, Bhai, Nojir Bihin Nojor Ali, Bou Pagol, Hiyar Majhe Lukiye Chhile, and Ektuku Chhua Lage. In the same year, he appeared in two comedy sequence dramas titled Formal In and Formal In Plus. The dramas were directed by Masud Sejan and the co-artists were Nipun, Sonia Hossain, and Mishu Sabbir. 

Next year, another two sequences titled “Formal In Action and Formal in Reaction” were released. All the episodes were aired on Banglavision during Eid-ul-Adha. In the same year, he appeared in “Pori” directed by Arif, and “Kew Kotha Rakheni” by Ahsan Alamgir and Zahid Hasan himself. 

Besides all these dramas, Zahid Hasan got most of his recognition as Arman Bhai. He played the iconic role consequently in Arman Bhai, Abaro Arman Bhai, Arman Bhai Koya Parche, Arman Bhai Faisha Gese, Arman Bhai the Gentleman, Arman Bhai Birat Tension e, Arman Bhai House Husband, and Arman Bhai Honeymoon e. All of the sequences were directed by famous director Sagar Jahan. Zahid Hasan appeared with Nusrat Imroz Tisha and Afnan in this drama.

In 2020, he became visible in a comedy drama titled “100 te Eksho” directed by Abu Hayat Mahmud. Next year, he acted in another comedy based drama “Odol Bodol”. The drama was directed by Sohel Rana Emon and aired on Maasranga Television. 

Along with appearing in several dramas, Zahid Hasan has had a great impact on the film industry as well. Besides Srabon Megher Din and Amar Ache Jol, he also came into sight in multiple films. Ottui Baruwata, Jibon Songi, Shankhonad, Made In Bangladesh, Jhontu Montu Dui Bhai, Haldaa, Bizli, Shap Ludu, Mafia and so on. In 2003, his film “Prio Sathi ” was released which was a remake of the Tamil film “Thulladha Manamum Thullum”. 

“Projapoti ” was his other megahit aired in 2011. The film was directed by Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Raz. Zahid Hasan played the role of Tanveer and worked with some famous co-artists Moushumi and Mosharraf Karim. In 2019, he made his debut in an Indian film “Sitara” by Ashish Ray. He appeared as Dilu with a bunch of stars such as Nassar, Raima Sen, Meghna Naidu, Subrat Dutta, Fazlur Rahman, Shahid Ali, and Masud Akhter.

Apart from being an incredible actor, Zahid Hasan is an outstanding director as well. There are several dramas both directed and acted by him. Lal Neel Beguni, Shubho Bibaho, Sorry, Ektu Deri Hoye Gelo, Emotional Abdul Matin, Jhograpur and so on are some of the notable ones. In 2014, he starred in a show with Mahfuz Ahmed “Humayun Ahmed er Nil Podder Chhoya”. The show was hosted by Meher Afroz Shaon in remembrance of the iconic personality Humayun Ahmed.
