A BIOGRAPHY OF SHAIKH ABDUL HANNAN
Shaikh Abdul Hannan was born on 1 August 1963 in Bagerhat, Bangladesh. He graduated from the Bangladesh Air Force Academy in 1986. In December 1990, he was commissioned as an officer of the Bangladesh Air Force. During his career, Hannan has held several command and staff positions within the Air Force, including commanding officer of the 111th Squadron, 14th Wing; commander of the 66th Independent Wing; deputy chief of staff for operations at the Bangladesh Joint Staff Headquarters; assistant chief of staff for operations at the Bangladesh Joint Staff Headquarters; and deputy chief of staff for operations at the Bangladesh Joint Staff Headquarters. From September 2013 until July 2016, Hannan served as commander of the Bangladesh Air Force’s Western Command. On 12 June 2021, he was promoted to a four-star rank and appointed Chief of Air Staff.

Early Life and Education:
Shaikh Abdul Hannan was born on 1 August 1963 in the village of Khetla, Chittagong District, East Pakistan, to parents Nurul Haque and Hamida Khatun. He attended Cumilla Education Board High School, Cumilla Cadet College and Cumilla Government College. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree from the Bangladesh University of Professionals. Hannan later completed a Master of Science in Defence Studies from the National University and a Master of Arts in International Relations from the University of Dhaka.
On July 14, 1984, Shaikh Abdul Hannan received his commission as a General Duty Pilot. The Air Chief Marshal is a qualified flying instructor and category “A” pilot. He is the Chief Examiner of the MI-17/171 Helicopter Examiner Board and he holds the Proficiency Wing. Hannan obtained his MDS and MSS degrees from Pakistan Air Force Air War College in 1999. He is a graduate of the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), Mirpur. He obtained his M.Sc. in National Security and War Studies while finishing the National Security and War Course at National Defence University, Islamabad, and is the school’s top graduate for the 2014 graduating class. He served in the United Nations Protection Force in Bosnia Herzegovina (UNPROFOR) in 1995. In addition, he led the BAF Contingent (BAN AIR-4) in the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC) in 2006-07. On 12 June 2021, Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina specified S.A. Hannan as Chief of Air Staff and he takes it to charge on 12 June 2021.
Shaikh Abdul Hannan is married to Tahmida Hannan and they have one son, named Sheikh Labib Hannan
