A BIOGRAPHY OF ABDUL MONEM
Abdul Monem (1937 – 2020) was one of the famous Bangladeshi industrialists. He has made many important contributions to the business. For this, the government of Bangladesh gave him the title of an important person from a commercial point of view. He died on 31 May 2020.
Abdul Monem was a founding chairperson and managing director of Abdul Monem Limited. He founded the company in 1958. His two sons also managed the company successfully with him. The group owns Igloo Ice Cream and is the official butler of Coca-Cola in Bangladesh. At present one of his sons, Mr. A.S.M. Mainuddin Monem is the managing Director (MD) of the company and another son Mr. A.S.M. Mohiuddin Monem is working as an Additional Managing Director. The main strength of our organization is to mobilize resources for large scale infrastructure projects i.e. financing by Word Bank, ADB, JICA, etc., and to be able to bear the initial risks related to these projects and to prove this. In a very short period of time, the company has not only built an experienced factory to meet international and service standards, but it is now the owner of a Coca-Cola bottle and the number one ice cream maker. It is currently the manufacturer of dairy products, igloo food ingredients and snacks, pharmaceuticals and auto bricks, bitumen, and other selected construction materials. He is also the founder of AM Sugar Refinery Ltd., AM Rice Bran Oil), Service Engine BPO, AM Securities and Financial Services Ltd., etc.
In 2015, he was awarded to him for building the Abdul Monem Economic Zone. This company has created employment opportunities for many people. The company has grown the company in a strong and dynamic way by building strength and character among business partners, associates, and stakeholders. It is an organization with 10,000+ talented and highly skilled staff. It takes responsibility for ensuring their safety as well as protecting their health and well-being. It has contributed to the economic, social, and environmental progress and prosperity of Bangladesh.

Early Life and Education:
Abdul Monem was born on 5 January 1937 in a respective Muslim family. His hometown is in Brahmanbaria District. He studied civil engineering.
Career:
Abdul Monem Abdul Monem Limited Company was established in 1956 with a capital of only Rs. 20,000. He was also a director of NCC Bank, National Life Insurance Company Limited, and Pragati Insurance Limited. In 1982, he bought K Rahman & Company. He then started working as an official butler at Coca-Cola. He was the chairperson of Mohammedan Sporting Club from 1984 to 1995. In 2014, he made a significant contribution to the industrial development of Bangladesh for which he was awarded the President’s Medal. In 2015, he established the Abdul Monem Economic Zone on a 216-acre site in Manikganj, one of the first private economic zones in Bangladesh. In 2019, Twelve Presents received the Lifetime Achievement Award at Rising Above All.
Personal Life:
Abdul Monem’s wife’s name is Selina Monem. She was a healthcare professional. Abdul Monem is the father of two sons and three daughters. His two sons ASM Mainuddin Monem and ASM Mohiuddin Monem are Deputy Managing Directors of Abdul Monem Limited. His daughter Dr. Farhana Monem is the chairperson of GME Group. The Government of Bangladesh has awarded her the Best Female Taxpayer Award for five consecutive years.
Death:
Abdul Monem was admitted to Square Hospital on 18 May 2020. She had a stroke. He died on 31 May 2020 at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka. He was buried in the family graveyard of Brahmanbaria district.
