Education

As an undergraduate student of Physics at Dhaka University during 1967-70, he read books on science in the children’s section of the British Council library at Dhaka. This helped him understand the concepts and applications of Physics much better, which turned beneficial to him ever since. Dr. Rabbani completed his bachelor’s degree from the University of Dhaka in 1970.

After that, he earned a master’s thesis at Southampton University for Microelectronics as well- earning him entry into their prestigious Commonwealth Scholars Program which allowed him to study abroad during graduate school! While living outside England’s shores, this intellectual became fascinated by how technology improved people’s day lives there – something missing among other developing countries like Bangladesh where integration has been slow due lack of resources or motivation.

Career

After completing his Ph.D. program, Khondkar Siddique-e-Rabbani joined the University of Dhaka as an Assistant Professor in the Department Of Physics at University of Dhaka. At that time, his teacher (who later became his colleague), Professor M Shamsul Islam and another friend from BCSIR was working on the usage of pulsed electromagnetic fields for the treatment of difficult-to-heal fractured bones.

He requested Dr Rabbani to recreate a BDT 55,000 worth of foreign machine that was malfunctioning. And Khondkar Siddique-e-Rabbaniwas successful in making a fully functional equipment with locally available electronic components. And it cost about BDT 1,000 only. This device was used in the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) on 16 patients for nearly 2 years and a dynamic result came with almost healing all of their fractured bones.

His other notable inventions are low-cost solar water pasteuriser for safe drinking water in rural areas, an Electrical therapy device for treatment of excessive sweating, Dynamic Pedograph, a Computerised EMG device, Digital Microscope, Intra-operative Neuromonitor, Electro-health device, Telemedicine technology with integrated diagnostic devices etc.

Continuing all the innovations, in 2008, he became the first Chairperson of the post-graduate Department of Biomedical Physics and Technology at the Dhaka University.
