A BIOGRAPHY OF ABDUL AWAL MINTOO
Abdul Awal Mintoo is a politician and businessman from Bangladesh. He has served as chairman or managing director of a number of Bangladeshi businesses and organizations. He was the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s previous president (FBCCI). Now, he serves as the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Multimode Group, one of Bangladesh’s major conglomerates, and is one of the country’s top businessmen and private sector executives. Agriculture, banking and insurance, FMCG, automobiles, oil and natural gas exploration, banking and insurance, agricultural research, development, and production, chemicals and fertilizers, hospitality, information technology, textiles and plastic recycling, real estate, and so on have all been added to the Group’s portfolio.
Mr. Mintoo is also the Chairman of Lal Teer Seed Ltd. (LTSL), a company that specializes in hybrid and OP seed development, manufacturing, processing, packaging, and marketing of many varieties of rice and vegetables. Since the founding of LTSL in 1995, Mr. Mintoo has engaged his Lal Teer Team in frontier research for agricultural development in Bangladesh, collaborating and partnering with various international NGO’s and Interest Groups to address the challenges affecting Bangladeshi smallholder farmers in the fields of economic hardship, nutritional deficiency among the poor, adaptation to climatic change, the need for HyB& resilient Seeds, women empowerment, and other areas in order to achieve the Goals.
He’s also been a key participant in a number of seed industry technical organizations, seminars, conferences, events, and consortiums in Asia and elsewhere. Mintoo was recently elected as the President of Bangladesh Seed Association (BSA) and Executive Committee Member (EC Member) in Asia & Pacific Seed Association (APSA), for the first time in Bangladesh’s history, for his outstanding leadership and active participation in the agricultural sector in Bangladesh and the South East Asia & Pacific region.
He also introduced one of Bangladesh’s first private banks, NATIONAL BANK LTD., as a forward-thinking financial institution.
He was elected two terms as President of the FEDERATION OF BANGLADESH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (FBCCI) for his good leadership and has received various honors.

Early Life and Education of “Abdul Awal Mintoo” :
Abdul Awal Mintoo was born in Aleyarpur, a tiny and rural hamlet in Bangladesh’s Feni district, in 1949. He comes from a landowning family and had his elementary education in the village school.
He received his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) in 1964 after studying science at Feni Government Pilot High School in Feni. In 1966, he received his Higher Secondary School Certificate from Comilla Victoria College (HSC). He graduated from Mercantile Marine Academy in Chittagong, then known as Pakistan Marine Academy, with a certificate in nautical science in 1968.
He moved to the United States to further his education, earning a bachelor’s degree in marine transportation science from the State University of New York Maritime College in 1973 and a master’s degree in transportation management and advanced chartering problems and arbitration from the University of New York at Albany in 1974.
After eight years working for a shipping firm in the United States, Abdul Awal Mintoo faced a turning point in his career when, in 1982, he decided to leave the security of his lucrative international shipping profession and return to Bangladesh.
Career:
Abdul Awal Mintoo began his career aspirating to be a ship captain, but has since evolved into a successful businessman and a notable Bangladeshi entrepreneur. He calls for a socioeconomic system that welcomes both the market and the government at the same time. Abdul Awal Mintoo’s commercial edifice was based on his extensive and diversified expertise, unwavering resolve, and indomitable spirit. He was a brave advocate of the cause of improving Bangladesh’s economic infrastructure.
Abdul Awal Mintoo has held positions as managing director of Investment in Real Estate Land Development and Automobiles Distributorship / Shipping / Chartering Multimode Transport Consultants Limited, the largest private general insurance company in Bangladesh, chairman of Investment in the oil and gas sector in Bangladesh, and managing director of Investment in Real Estate Land Development and Automobiles Distributorship / Shipping / Chartering Multimode Transport Consultants Limited. He is the chairman of Johnson & Johnson’s marketing and sole distribution in Bangladesh.
He has served as the director of Chittagong Cement Clinker Grinding Co. Ltd. (Heidelberg Cement) and an advisor to Dulamia Cotton Spinning Mills Ltd. in Bangladesh’s industrial sector.
He has also been involved in agricultural-related enterprises, serving as Chairman of OP and Hybrid Vegetable Seeds production, processing, and research.
